Our hotel began in 1900 when it was known as Seevilla “Lake house”. It was a pleasant spring, winter and summer house, used mostly as villa for wealthy habituč of heliotherapy and for lovers of the healthy air for which the lake is famous.
A hundred and more years of history bring us here. Time as change the appearance but there is still the elegance and the healthy air.
In the early years of the 20th. Century Seevilla featured in the health programmes devised by the famous Dr. VonHartungen. He treated patients suffering from the stress of city life with a cure based on a perfect balance of nature, clean air, water, sun and a healthy simple and natural diet. Von Hartungen’s clients came from all over Europe and included the rich and famous such as the Prince of Liechtenstein and the writers Kafka and Thomas Mann.
Hartungen’s project began in the Villa Cristoforo’ in the centre of Riva. This later became the Hotel Minerva but has long been closed down and out of use. In an interesting link with its own history, the Parc Hotel Flora now owns the villa and intends to restore it to its former glory. In the villa Hartungen began his treatments using Kneipp’s hydro-therapy theories and also taking advantage of the glass covered verandah to completely expose his patients to the sun during helio-therapy and other natural treatments. His cure was based on breathing the clear air of the Garda, exercise, skin care, sun bathing, water therapy, massage, Mediterranean fruit, cow and goat’s milk, steam baths, cold showers, swimming, rowing, sailing and healthy mountain walks.
The Parc Hotel Flora today would like to recreate the elements of his theories which proved prophetic in how they anticipated so many of the therapies in use today. So simple but so effective; the healthy breakfast, relaxing in the shade of the palm trees by the pool, the short walk to the lake and its beautifully landscaped beach, the mountains, the varied sporting activities, the wonderful massage in our wellness centre (Dolce Vita), the Turkish Bath, Mediterranean Bath, Ice Cascade, Kneipp water therapy, relaxation suite with colour and music therapy.
